| Sumario: | Sumptuary arts, especially goldsmiths and silversmiths, were and are very present in the
Spanish Holy Week, by their symbolic and conceptual significance. Obviously, such a complex
event is to remember the last days of Christ involves a whole range of issues around it, namely,
rituals, processions, liturgical celebrations, etc., where the silverware is not the margin. One
can even say that in some stands as the true protagonist, if the monuments of Holy Thursday,
real waste and showcase silverware that evoke the tomb. The goldsmith artistic repertoire also
includes other types such as chalices which include representations of the Passion, be they a
mere representation of expletives or, conversely, full scenes. Within the ceremonial Holy Thursday
directly part other parts like chrismatories or amphorae own oils, besides the relics of the
Passion, which in this Alicante province are embodied in the so-called Lignum Crucis and the
relic of the Holy Face, now venerated in the monastery of Poor Clares (Alicante). To all that
picture must be added the contributions from the brotherhoods, most notably the jewelry destined
for the beautification of the images that appear in the procession, so here an overview,
jointly offered if you will, that aims to show and gauge the contribution of that sumptuous
Easter heritage lands in the province of Alicante. |
