Descripción
Sumario:
The chapter presents experimental data on the relationship of Schistosoma turkestanicum in the host parasite system of interconnected groups, alternating parasitic and free-living states of this trematode, where the physiological and biochemical aspects of parasite-host relationships in animals with schistosomiasis are considered. Particular attention is paid to the population structure of Sch. turkestanicum, mature forms that parasitise in the blood vessels of mammals and larval forms in aquatic molluscs. The implementation of the adaptive-compensatory mechanisms of the parasite and the host ensures the functioning of the parasitic system. The dynamism of the system depends on a complex of factors of exogenous and endogenous origin. The life of free-living populations (miracidia and cercariae) of Sch. turkestanicum is suppressed by unfavourable abiotic environmental factors. The number of parasitic populations depends on endogenous (biotic) factors. This is evidenced by the results of experimental studies—physiological and biochemical changes in the blood, protein fractions and histostructure of individual organs of infected animals, which are detailed in the text of the book.
