Sumario:
The clinical manifestations of experimental schistosomiasis in animals are diverse, and the state of several stages is as follows: the first stage of the disease is characterised by cercariasis, dermatitis, general hyperaemia, increased body temperature, increased heart rate and respiration are observed. These changes are typical for the first 10–12 days after infection of animals; the second stage is characterised by the absence of noticeable violations of the physiological functions of the body, which coincides in time with the growth period and development of schistosomes in the blood vessels of the animal; the third (acute) stage of the disease manifests itself 5–6 weeks after infection of the animals and is characterised by progressive diarrhoea mixed with blood and fibrinous films. The coat is dishevelled, and the animal is emaciated. Puffiness is noted. With such symptoms, heavily infected animals die. The intensity of the invasion reaches 950 thousand ind. in individual animals. An acute course of schistosomiasis in cattle was observed in September–October 1964–1965, 1984–1985, 2004–2005 in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and Khorezm region. Only for the period 1984–1985 in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, more than 13 thousand heads of cattle died due to schistosomiasis caused by Sch. turkestanicum. An intravital diagnosis is based on the detection of eggs in animal faeces. Post-mortem diagnosis is made by examining the blood vessels of the liver and intestines, that is, method of complete helminthological dissections.
