Sumario:This chapter aims to summarize the most relevant aspects of anticoagulants. Initially, a brief review of the physiology is given in order to understand at which step of coagulation each anticoagulant acts. Later, the main indications and contraindications will be discussed, as well as the considerations that should be taken into account before starting treatment. Finally, the specific characteristics of each type of anticoagulant are developed, starting with vitamin K agonists and continuing with each of the direct oral anticoagulants.
